Price tags are pretty darn important. They are the deal breaker. When a customer checks an item for the price if the tag is missing you may lose the sale. If you have your item priced too high, you could lose the sale too. But having a pretty price tag can sometimes seal the deal. Maybe not for everyone, but personally am a sucker for tags. More times than I care to count, I have bought something because it was packaged pretty or had an attractive tag.

I know a lot of you don't bother with pretty tags because you are in malls that keep your tags. When talking to other dealers I hear this a lot. They figure why waste the time and money when the tag doesn't go home with the customer. I see your point. However, there is a way around this. You can use tags that are perforated. The mall/store can tear off the bottom half and leave the top half for the customer. This next photo is a sample of a tag that one of our readers submitted. She says the shop cuts off the bottom and the top goes home with the customer.

Tags come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. You can make them with crafts you have laying around the house or you can make them on the computer. You can also enlist the help of a graphic designer. Rubber stamps are one way to go. You can find them at any local hobby store. I knew one lady that used to save all her greeting cards. She would then use a die cut in different shapes to punch the paper out and then tie them with a pretty vintage ribbon.

I have seen everything from old playing cards, bingo card, flash cards to old photos and everything in between. When you have been in this business as long as I have you have seen a little bit of it all. So for those people that struggle with tags I wanted to share some inspiration.

This first picture is a business card that was printed through Vista Print. These look like 2.5" tags which I have always been fond of. I like this look better than the standard business card.
Christi says she prints 20 tags per page on brown kraft paper. There is something so elegant about kraft tags. These are generally my go-to tag as well.

Happy Sunday friends. Hope everyone is staying warm and safe out there especially in the upper states. It was rainy here yesterday and it has been very cold today so I stayed inside as much as possible. I think lots of us are getting cabin fever and itchy for Spring.

So for those of you that are cooped up, I thought I would share some printables with you. Maybe give you a little something fun to work on. We did a poll last Sunday asking if you would be interested in receiving printable price tags and the results are in. 140 of you voted. 129 said yes and while 11 of you said no. I am working on some fun printables right now. But in the meantime please enjoy these weathered looking price tags. You can find them at the bottom.

It was interesting to see the final results we did on the Farmhouse trend. I think I speak for most of you when I say true authentic farmhouse goods will always have a place. However the cheap massed produced, made in China, knockoff stuff is what I was referring to. I don't mean to include everyone in this statement, but I do think a lot of the millennials don't seem to care if it's a true vintage piece or not. They just want the look and they want it cheap.

So here are the results. 249 of you voted on this poll. 93 of you said it is starting to decline while 156 of you said it is still going strong.

The holidays are right around the corner. We thought we would share these cute printable winter tags for those of you that want to get a jump start on tagging your Holiday items. Just click on the collage sheets to download to your computer. These are really cute with rounded corners or use a special punch like a tag shaped puncher. Add some bakers twine and you have a festive price little tag. These are also cute with little silver dots of glitter. Use your imagination and have fun!!

1. Make sure all of your items have price tags.  I know we are all busy and there are times when we are in a hurry and forget to price something. Tags may also get torn off during the shuffle of moving things around. When you stop by your booth plan to spend a few extra minutes scanning over inventory.

We found a lot of you like making your own digital tags. For those of you that are new to this concept there are several ways to make tags and all those are mentioned in the last post.

If you are going to be making tags that are printed off from your home computer you will need a software program for this. You can find FREE programs out there like Pic Monkey, Pixlr and Be Funky. Again these are free and do very basic commands. However, if you are familiar with graphic design and want something with a lot more bells and whistles you can use programs like Photoshop, Corel Paint Shop Pro or others. 

Either way you decide to go, you are going to need two things. Clip art, and fonts. 

Clip Art: Is a ready-made usually copyright-free illustrations sold in books or as part of a software package from which they may be cut and pasted or inserted as artwork. Here are a few samples. 





If you love vintage graphics, my all time favorite go to source, is The Graphics Fairy. Karen, the owner has kindly devoted so much time and energy to an ever growing database with free clip art.  And guess what? It's all vintage inspired. Can you believe all these gorgeous images? You can spend all day on her site and still not see everything. But there are other sites out there  that offer vintage clip art, just do a google search for "Free Vintage Clip art" and you will find lots of sites. Some other sites I like to use are:  Clker    Oh So Nifty Vintage Graphics   Far Far Hill   

Of course, there are some sites that charge a small fee like Etsy. There are millions of graphics that can be purchased and downloaded instantly through Etsy. Another place I purchase vintage graphics from is Neare Store. But feel free to do your search to see what you come up with too. 

Clip art is everywhere. Look around your home. You will find clip art on old greeting cards, advertisements, wrapping paper etc. Now you are wondering how to get that clip art onto the computer. Well, that's where having a scanner comes in handy. I remember when scanners first came out there were so expensive. In fact, I still have my first Canon Scanner. I think I paid over $100 for it and it still works great. Nowadays you can find a built in scanner with printers for relatively cheap. They are usually 4-1 which will, copy, print, fax and scan. 

The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating price tags. If you decide to print your own tags, you don't have to use plain boring cardstock paper. You can find fun cardstock paper at your local hobby store. It comes in different colors and patterns. There are some fancy hole punchers you can use to embellish the edges of your tags or to even create shaped tags like mason jars, deer heads, hearts, etc. Just take a stroll around your hobby store and you are sure to be inspired. 

We hope this blog post helps to shed a little more light on creating your own tags. Youtube has all kinds of tutorials on just about anything you can imagine. I first started watching makeup tutorials years ago, but soon discovered they have a video for just about anything out there. So if you get stuck, just check to see if there is a tutorial out there. These are some tags I used a while back. I just whipped these up on the computer using some cute graphics I found. All you have to do is print off the page, cut, hole punch and thread. These are super cute if you print them on brown kraft paper.

Barbara Condon Nesmith:  I just buy the index cards that come in colors-i cut them in 3 so i end up with 300 tags-costs 1.06 for all of them-then punch hole and use curling ribbon for the strings-i usually find the ribbon cheap at Goodwill every now and then-i make them when i am watching TV-i know it takes more time to make them but it is cheaper then buying them already done.

Jennifer Steele Williams: I used pages from a vintage children's book. (One that was damaged) I have also used playing cards,Monopoly money, and cards from board games.
